On Ubuntu we can easily install these with: apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential dkms These are needed to build the VirtualBox Guest Additions for the virtual machine. Now we have a basic VM running, we can add the VirtualBox Guest Additions to the VM.
